"Be the change you want to see in the world" - Gandi This quote sums up why I felt compelled to start this community website. I see Nantucket as having a unique opportunity to become a shinning example of what can be done around the world with conservation, environmental preservation, renewable energy, energy independence and unplugging from our addiction to fossil fuel. I also see this cooperative eco-community as a fair and equal forum for creative and effective discussion unpluged from special interests. The winds of politics, religion and special interests tend to blow the important environmental issues about. The transition away from fossil fuels will need to be done in an environmentally and economicaly responsible manner and will require creative and inovative solutions. Business as usual just won't due. I believe this website can offer a growing base of information and synergistic solutions to the tasks at hand. It can bring together all the talented people and organizations in our community. Global warming and the climatic changes are a huge topics... but I am very optimistic about our future. We have the technology to revese the environmental impact humans are having. There is far more well being on this earth than polution and conflict. The Earth is not broken. Like a dog with fleas, mother Earth may shake and scratch, but she will be just fine. Our responsibility is toward the quality of life, respect for nature and making decisions that will effect many generations to come. I came to Nantucket in the late 1980's and fell in love with my wife and the island and have lived here year round ever since and with a new son in our lives we have even more interest in the quality of life for island families and their children. Thank you so much for contributing to this community effort! In-joy, Bruce Marshall-Jones
